President Muhammadu Buhari maintains that not a single local government in Nigeria is under the control of the Boko Haram insurgent group.
Buhari stated this on Thursday, at a joint briefing after he received the president of Germany, Joachim Guack at Aso Rock in Abuja.
Senator Baba Garbai, who represents Borno Central in the Senate had stated on Saturday, February 6, that about 50% of Borno state was still under the control of the terrorists- a claim which was described as ’emotional’ by Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima.
President Buhari has now joined Shettima and the Nigerian Army to debunk the senator’s claims.
The president while briefing the German president also requested the support of Germany in ensuring that Nigeria remains a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
The German president promised to assist Nigeria in the fight to eradicate the insurgency.
