‘Nothing has changed’: I remain a member of the PDP – Gbenga Daniel

by Damilola Jagun

Gbenga Daniel, the immediate past governor of Ogun state, has refuted reports which insinuated that he intends to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, saying that he remains with the ruling party.

In a statement released through his spokesperson, Ayo Giwa, on Friday, January 2, he described the defection news as “mere speculation with no iota of truth. I remain in the PDP and nothing has changed”, he affirmed.

He implored his supporters to remain calm, steadfast and work assiduously for the success of all PDP candidates as presented by the National Working Committee (NWC) at the forthcoming polls.

The former governor also stated that himself and others are already perfecting strategies to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan has an impressive showing in Ogun State and the entire Southwest geopolitical zone in this year’s presidential election.

Furthermore, the statement revealed that after Daniel decided to opt out of the senatorial race of Ogun East Senatorial seat, the leadership of the PDP, through the National Working Committee, decided that he should run for election, however, he is “yet to concede to the directive or change his mind in spite of pressures on him to run.”
