Ahanonu Kingsley: Now, let’s pray for Buhari, the President-Elect

by Ahanonu Kingsley

Muhammadu Buhari (3)Lord, Nigerians and all her friends of goodwill have prayed fervently for thy will to be done in this fast gone election; and, true to our expectations, you Lord has graciously granted us that. We say thanks.

Lord, we thank you for a victory that had reflected your will and the wishes of the popular majority. In the victory so heralded and by the peaceful process that saw to it, you proved thy presence in our midst.

That General Muhammadu Buhari has won this poll is not out of thy knowledge; because, you, before hand had so designed it. In the victory of GMB, we saw thy power in the affairs of our nation.

Lord, Nigerians have, once more, come to thee. This time, we’ve come praying for the person of Gen. Muh’du Buhari- the choice you’ve made for us. Please, as always, do hear us.

We pray for thy presence in him. We pray that he would appreciate that this victory which has found expression in him is, very significantly, of thy making; for victory comes from thee alone. Therefore, we pray that, constantly, he would not lose sight of this veracity; the truth of thy power in his victory.

We pray that in his victory, he would be made to realize the truth of the unity in Nigeria’s diversity which was show-cased yet in the rallying of Nigerians across the various inclinations to support him. Make him to understand very well that he’s elected by the generality of the populace to offer them wide presidential feel. We ask that he would lead Nigeria with the deepest disposition that is above board and across all ethnic, religious and other parochial lines.

As such, we pray that in all his dealings, especially with the affairs of this nation that he would realise thy presence; as the threshold of his privilege and the focus of his commitments.

And as he takes charge of the affairs of this land, we pray for the spirit to be responsive to the very pressing needs that inundate us. For the ‘new government’ coming, we ask for the wisdom and courage to make sound policies and programmes.

We do understand that government is not a one-man business; its a conglomerate of individuals, who drive the process of governance. But we know that it requires virile leadership to drive the administration. Hence, we ask that you’ll make in GMB that needed leader taking a true lead with moral authority that projects his legitimacy.

In his appointments, we pray for your guidance; that only individuals with proven record of character worthy of eshewing same in governmental affairs are chosen to aid in the wide expectations Nigerians have of him. Hold him not to disappoint.

We pray also for a further manifestation of character and integrity; the very qualities that endeared him to us. We ask for more grace to be deeply committed to human and moral responsibilities even in government.

Thus Lord, we pray for more courage as against compromise; to fight corruption, reckless spending and avarice. We pray for resoluteness and not fear to mow down entrenched public irresponsibility and elitist lawlessness that have become status symbols.

Lord, in praying, also we ask: that you help our president-in-waiting to prove critics wrong. Give him the grace to exhibit patriotism and provide him the ground to prove his tolerance and high zeal to promote national interest. On GMB, we ask for the zeal to lead with passion and compassion; with focus and dedication and with prudence and discretion to continue on the positive strides achieved by GEJ and to suffocate the escalation of institutional decay and managerial laxity that had geared up under him.

We pray for his family and especially his dear wife, Aisha. That she would be a beacon of support and comfort to him and to our nation. Let in GMB and Aisha be the expression of the personalities that would stand as the true reflection of Nigerians, which we all shall be proud of.

Most importantly, we pray for health of mind and body; we pray for wisdom, we pray for sense of responsibility and, above all, we pray for thy love on him.

Amen.
