Now they’re saying Attahiru Jega may be asked to leave

Unconfirmed reports say the Federal Government may have decided to find a replacement for the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega.

We told you earlier that the presidency is not very pleased with Jega after he seemingly blamed the poll extension on the military who said they would be unavailable to ensure security during the elections.

According to Vanguard newspaper, Jega will likely be proceeding on a three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, 2015 in compliance with the civil service procedure and will be replaced by Professor Nazim Olufemi Mimiko.

“The government is considering bringing in another academic from the South-West… a professor of Political Science and International Relations who is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and his party,” the online portal reports.

Professor Nazim Olufemi Mimiko is a professor of Political Science and International Relations and  the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State.

Governor Mimiko is President Goodluck Jonathan’s South-West campaign coordinator and is also said to be a sibling of the current Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko.
