By the numbers: The companies Mark Zuckerberg has built in the past 12 years

Mark Zuckerberg is the American programmer and entrepreneur who owns the world’s largest internet register for humans and interactivity. He developed the Facebook website while he was a student at Harvard University and since then, Facebook has penetrated the world… The Facebook company has acquired and built other companies under its umbrella and they are all groundbreaking successes.

Here are stats that will help you respect Mark Zuckerberg’s influence on the internet and entrepreneurial spheres:

facebook logoFacebook: The largest social networking site was launched in 2004. At the nascent stage, it was only accessible to students at Harvard, it later spread to other Ivy League colleges and universities in the region. 8 years after its launch, Facebook announced that it had hit one billion active users across the globe. As at June 2016, the site could boast of 171 million active users monthly.

Instagram: Facebook purchased the mobile photo-sharing app, Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion. At the time, Instagram had no revenue and seemed like it was not worth the huge purchase but as of June 2016, Instagram had reached 500 million monthly active users across the globe which was a great leap above its 400 million users in September 2015. Some of the most followed celebrities on Instagram are Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian.

Selena Gomez currently has over 97 million followers on the app.

WhatsAppWhatsapp: In October 2014, Facebook officially signed the deal that brought WhatsApp under its large umbrella. The number of monthly active users of the instant messaging app have reached 1 billion as at February 2016.

Ever since Facebook acquired WhatsApp, there has been only a few changes made to the site, in form of upgrades. 57 percent of these 1 billion users get on the app several times a day.

Oculus VROculus VR: This virtual reality app was purchased by Facebook in March 2014. Though it has not enjoyed widespread usage, it is poised to grow very fast over the years. Its projected reach is 171 million users in the US by 2018.

Under Oculus VR is Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset that is expected to reach the retail markets at the end of August which is basically now. So far, 44 percent of US residents who take part in a survey have shown interest in the product.
