Every week, different figures make news headlines.

While some numbers are bereft of impact in the general scheme of things, a few others tend to be significant, and as such they stand out.

In essence, they are important and should matter.

These are the numbers that mattered this week.

600,000

The number of young people to be trained in teaching (500,000), technology (25,000), and building services (75,000) by the FG’s N-Power programme. The portal will begin to take applications from Monday, June 12, at npower.gov.ng

100,000

The number, in hectares, that the Sokoto State government aims to set aside as grazing reserves for herdsmen across 6 of its LGAs.

3.3 million

The amount, in dollars, that an ECOWAS court has ordered Nigeria to pay as compensation to the families of those killed in Apo district of Abuja, in 2005.

4,031

The number, in megawatts, that has been lost to gas shortages as a result of a sharp spike in militant activity in the Niger Delta, according to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

N19.43 billion

The amount, in Naira, that the NNPC lost in April.

The number of ambassadors nominated by President Buhari, and sent to the Senate for confirmation this week. The country has been operating embassies without ambassadors to many key countries for the last one year.

The amount owed the Niger Delta Power Holding Company by the Federal Government and ordinary citizens.
