#NYSCAbuse: Exhuming bodies for independent investigation, really FG?

Okay, we are still trying to catch our breath from the week-long wait for the Federal Government to respond to the deaths of NYSC corps members, especially that of Ifedolapo Oladepo.

The President waited a whole week before he could summon some “saddening” speech about the deaths. Mr Solomon Dalung, who believe it or not is still the Youth and Sports minister, thinks the way forward is to sign a condolence register and order the NYSC orientation camps to fix up – because this is a mock football pitch and that’s how things work.

Now, we hear that the independent investigation that Mr. President promised will take place as regards Ifedolapo’s death may require exhuming her body. Vanguard reports that Mr Solomon Dalung said as much to State House correspondents on Thursday.

The report quotes the Minister to have said:

“The report given by NYSC is normal and natural, that after investigation they must present their own report on what has happened but in view of the fact that they are many versions on what led to the death of the NYSC member, it would be fair to look at another version of what happened to be sure of what actually transpired.

It doesn’t have to do with not trusting the process but gauge the report alongside other opinion. Then we will now be able to tell Nigerians that this is the circumstances on how she died. Don’t forget that the report of the NYSC has no autopsy and an independent investigation will require an autopsy and now the autopsy alongside the report will balance and it will fortify the conclusion the government will make”.

So we have a few questions:

  1. Where in the ___damn, __tha____in’ 21st century world does ANYBODY, ANY SANE PERSON -let’s not even bother to assume there’s any government anywhere else that will – issue an autopsy to be carried out a week after a death has occured?

OH GOODNESS! We are even forgetting that this sweet girl has already been laid to rest. They will exhume her body to carry out an investigation which report is probably already complete waiting to sent to press.

Granted, these guys think we are just a bunch of dunces but they must not know that we didn’t start this #NYSCAbuse tracker for nothing. They must not know!

Autopsies are usually carried out within a maximum of 3 days after the death. It has been over a week in this case. What even do these people take us for.

What level of incompetent foolishness is this?

Which leads us to our nest question: Who authorised this autopsy?

In the Nigerian alternate universe, a Coroner would have been commissioned to look into these deaths due to the doubtful, unexpected and suspicious circumstances under which they died. The Coroner is a judicial officer who will consider the report from an autopsy he/she ordered in order to determine whether an inquest will be carried out to find the real cause of death.

The Coroner, because his job is statutory, needs no consent before he issues that an autopsy be conducted. Always within a matter of hours after the death.

Of course, this is no Coroner situation. The Federal government wants to go dig up a dead body – as if their mere complicity and subsequent nonchalant attitude aren’t enough. Join us as we ask whose consent, from Ifedolapo’s family has been sought and granted?

Honestly, the FG tires us.

We’ll be wailing wailers on this one -till the Federal Government that has heaped this NYSC burden on our youth fixes up and acts right!

Exhume let us see!
