#NYSCAbuse: Reps summon DG, demands prosecution of negligent personnel

Following outcry over the deaths of corps members in recent times, the House of Representatives has summoned the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Suileman Kazaure.

Given details of decisions taken at plenary on Tuesday via his Twitter account, Speaker Yakubu Dogara said the House resolved that those involved in the act of negligence that led to the death of the corps members be prosecuted and that Health and Life insurance be provided for corps members during their service year.

“Today in the House of Representatives, we observed a minute’s silence in honour of late Ms. Ifedolapo Oladapo and 5 other corps members whom we lost this year. In response to these deaths, the House resolved as follows; that the DG of NYSC appear before joint committees on health, youth and justice; that any and all personnel involved in the act of negligence be prosecuted; that NYSC work with state governments to build permanent orientation camps in all 36 states and the FCT with fully equipped medical facilities and this should be provided for in the 2017 Appropriation Act; and Health and life insurance should be provided to all corps members during their service year.”
