Oddie Moghalu: While you’re waiting (30 Days, 30 Voices)

However, this time of singleness is not a time to just live, you know since you are not in a any committed relationship it is ok to play around and ‘have fun’, living for no purpose.

I have to say admit it took so much hesitation for me to get myself to share this and I also had that Jonah moment where I had so many excuses why I should not share this. However, it is not about me but about God’s kingdom.

I was in the shower this morning when the song “while i’m waiting” by John Waller came on. Usually I’d just sing to this song but today it was different. When the song same up, I could hear God speak to me on the issue of ‘singleness’.

Being single is not a plague neither is it a stigma. I know it gets to that point in our lives where everyone around you is getting married or engaged and you look at yourself and wonder if something is wrong with you. I’d like to tell you that nothing is wrong with you. You were made perfect by the perfect creator. Marriage is a blessing so also is being single.

However, this time of singleness is not a time to just live, you know since you are not in a any committed relationship it is ok to play around and ‘have fun’, living for no purpose.  God has more for you. While you are waiting you should be serving God, you should use this time to seek a closer relationship with him. There are things you can do for God’s kingdom as a single man or woman that married people cannot do just because of the extra responsibility of caring for a family.

In addition, you do not want to rush into any relationship that God has not purposed for you. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts with all diligence. This is essential because when your heart is heavy or weary, it is difficult to make logical and reasonable decisions. Rather than spend time focusing on media and all other things that do not help edify our spirit, we should focus on the word of God as a guide to live the life that he has purposed for us.

Women, you want a man that will love you as Christ loved the church. You want a man of God who will lead you and your family towards the plan of God for your life. It is not too early to start praying for him. And I am not saying that your should pray for that particular guy at work or school because that guy you are praying for might not be the one for you.

Men, you want the type of woman that the bible talks about in Proverbs 31. You do not want a woman that will draw you away from God or away from the plans that he wants for you. And you also can start praying for the woman that God has for you.

So spend this season of your life doing things for the kingdom of God and developing a closer relationship with him.
