‘One Million Boys’: How a group of robbers (and rapists) terrorize Lagos (freely)

by Akan Ido

A group of miscreants numbering about 40, have turned the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos into their cesspit of crime and unruly behaviour.

Residents of the area say, the boys who labeled themselves the ‘One Million Boys‘ are said to be in the habit of robbing homes of valuables in the wee hours of the day often without any sense of  hurry to leave due to any threat of being caught by law enforcement agencies.

“I thank God that my sisters and I were not at home when they visited our residence. I wonder what would have been our fate.  You see what makes the group dreaded is that they do not visit only the homes of the rich, but often every home on their path, where they freely rape women – both young and old, in addition to collecting all valuables,” a young woman resident in the area said.

A family in Alagba street said they now retire to bed with the fear of this notorious gang. One of them who ventured to speak to the press on the development on the condition of anonymity called on the Nigeria Police to act swiftly to save them from the nightmare.

Another resident of the area reportedly said several members of the gang visited his house about a week ago. He said the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) security man in the area was tired up before the boys started their operation on the street.

The Lagos police public relations officer (PPRO), Ngozi Braide was not available to give her comment on the matter.
