Commentary: Should a husband enforce his political will over his wife?

by Jumoke Aruleba

So, this morning, my colleague walked into the office and informed us that he was sad that he did not get his PVC because he would have loved to be a part of this democratic process. He went on to further state that if he had gotten his PVC, he would have forced his wife to support his preferred party.

He defended this position by saying that he is the spiritual head of the home and as such, she must agree with him.

All the ladies at the gathering went up in arms and said this is against their fundamental human rights. Women have a right to choose and they would not listen to their husbands if he tried it.

This reminds me of a tweet that I read where a man was lamenting about never trusting his wife again. Apparently, he had told her to vote for APC, and she had agreed.

At the polling unit, he spied on her ballot sheet and found out that she had voted for PDP! He has therefore declared her as a woman that can kill! Lol! Wetin we no go hear for this our country?

So what do you think? Should a man assert his ‘authority’ in this regard?
