It’s been almost a week since Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu decided to avoid the highroad after his rash and unfair response to a statement that was wrongly attributed to Dr Oby Ezekwesili in a Sunday Tribune publication.

A reporter for the publication had said that the #BringBackOurGirls convener claimed that Buhari doesn’t deserve to be President on account of his attitude to the #NIS2000 rally to which Dr. Ezekwesili has chosen to lend a voice.

I await an apology from Garba Shehu but this is something that seems more unlikely with each day that passes; seeing as he’s already moved on to other matters on his Twitter handle. It’s sad that I am not surprised about this but what is even sadder is this opinion piece by someone named Okanga Agila published today on a number of online news sites.

The contributor assumes the role of Garba Shehu’s media adviser and goes on for several lines of unreasonable and frankly, primary-two-ish allegations about how Ezekwesili is only speaking up for causes because the government has refused to grant her a seat at the table. Believe it when we say it is not worth the arduous read. It’s the kind of thing that doesn’t make it to Freedom Speech campaign posters.

Having taken the liberty to check on other writings by the author, I will pass on commenting and move on to the important question that this raises. For one, he thinks that blogging is the worst thing ever invented since the creation of nuclear warheads.

Garba Shehu has refused to tender an apology; the President has remained silent on the whole thing and there’s just a general sense of detachment from the issue that is not characteristic of a government that makes sure to respond when it feels attacked.

I certainly hope that this “opinion” was sanctioned by someone in Aso-Rock as something they consider a befitting response to the matter.

That will be worse than a shame.
