Opinion: It’s time for the female gender to take over national reform

by Fatunbi Ajibike

Beautiful business woman wearing glasses…. population census shows that there are more female gender in Nigeria than male, but how many of such channel effort into transformational deeds?…..

‘Variety’ is a nature of the world which makes all entities relevant in forming an integral whole. Existential records in various phases of life show that the place of the female gender is stable, crucial, essential and sufficient to translate the world into a better place. History has recorded important transformational efforts championed and sustained by women; these records have shown us that the challenges our various societies and nation are facing are not insurmountable, if we are willing, determined and thorough about the course of making a great nation especially for our children-the generations to come.

According to Jeffrey Sachs, fighting for generations to come is really a huge task, because these are people we may never meet – yet we have to labour for them because they flow through us and are linked with us.

The world keeps changing but the changes that have been occurring lately touch the depth of the foundation of our lives; no doubt, such changes and the challenges that follow requires dynamic, intelligent, timely, comprehensive and sustainable responses and solutions. Nigeria at the center of African nations’ roll as well is facing tough challenges, every stage of our history has been accompanied with its own peculiar problems which battles our ‘present’ and could paralyze our ‘future’ if not resolved comprehensively. This calls for a forceful combined effort, in which the female gender has its key roles to play.

The strength of the army lies in their unity, and their unity is distinct in discipline; the weakness in collaboration cannot be compared with the strength in solitariness- population census shows that there are more female gender in Nigeria than male, but how many of such channel effort into transformational deeds? The world has gone past the stage where women maintain the traditional responsibility of staying in the kitchen, the world has attained a level of social responsibility for all irrespective of the gender, age, race or religion. Economic imbalance, bad leadership, insecurity, corruption among other social ills do not have preference for gender, religion, age or race; they affect all. Thus, combating them must be a collaborative fight.

In the broad sense, this article is unique in someway and significant in many ways – raising a timely call for noticeable female contribution in national development in Nigeria. Females should take up reformation task beyond visiting maternities during festive periods or organizing purposeless celebration events- it’s regressive to maintain the pattern of first ladies rather unveil improved form of involvement in stable and timely developments. Beginning from grassroot advocacy and re-orientation, to practical emancipation of female on their responses to salient issues, the strong waves of change blown by women have to be felt in Nigeria, the onus lies on us all; I am Fatunbi Ajibike, a female, this nation expects a lot from me! This nation expects a lot from you and every other persons, live for the course of nation building as a female, be the heroine Nigeria has been waiting for.
