Samuel Ortom says he is no longer a member of PDP

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom  has reiterated that he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before he picked the governorship ticket under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and won election as governor.

The state chairman of the PDP in Benue, Emmanuel Agbo had earlier said during a press conference in Makurdi on Friday that Ortom is still a bonafide member of PDP, saying Ortom had not notify the party of his defection.

However, in a press statement on Saturday signed by the special adviser to the governor on media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua said the claim by the PDP is a clear indication that the opposition party had not recovered from the trauma of defeat in the last April poll.

Leadership reported that the statement stated that Ortom resigned from the PDP on 9th December, 2014, handed over his resignation letter to the PDP ward chairman in Nzorov council ward of Guma local government area, Felix Agbaka.

“The Federal High Court in Makurdi dismissed the PDP case which had sought to establish that the governor was a member of the PDP,” the statement said.

It further said the people of the state were unanimously determined to throw off the burden of a party, the PDP that brought them untold hardship and bad governance which led to the collapse of all government institutions in the state.
