Oscar Pistorius: Prosecutors file appeal against case verdict

by Mark Bassey

South African prosecutors have filed an appeal against the sentence and conviction of Paralympian, Oscar Pistorius.

Last month, Judge Thokozile Masipa found Pistorius guilty of culpable homicide, and sentenced him to five years in prison for the murder of girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valetine’s day last year.

Prosecutors had immediately after the verdict indicated their intention to appeal the verdict and sentencing of the blade runner.

According to a statement by South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority on Tuesday, 4 November, the appeal has already been filed.

It said, “Today, we announce that the NPA filed the application for leave to appeal both the conviction and sentence. The appeal on conviction is based on the question of law.”
