Oshiomhole to drag @EFCCNigeria to court over ‘political crimes’

by Iyobosa Omoregie

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has revealed that he is prepared to file a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, over its constant dabbling into political affairs.

Oshiomole made this known on Tuesday, 28 October, at a town hall meeting in Imagwe college, in Benin, where he stated that the EFCC has abandoned its constitutional duty and has instead become a political commission.

His comments were made in response to the Commission’s brief detention of the Speaker, Majority Leader and the Chief Whip by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja, over the suspension of four lawmakers in the state House of Assembly.

Oshiomole said, “Our own EFCC is now Economic Financial and alleged Political Crimes. I am still unable to understand how EFCC assumed responsibility to investigate impeachment of a deputy Speaker. That is how far the EFCC has degenerated.”

“When armed robbers are the ones looking for thieves then the story will change. We are watching how things will go. We have assembled a legal team to take EFCC to court to challenge their authority to become a political commission,” he added.

The former Labour leader also expressed his determination to fight the graft body, tooth and nail.

“We will fight them on our feet and never beg them on our knees. We will show them respect but never shall we display an act of cowardice. We want to see how far they can go. The greatest weapon is to deliver on good governance.”

The town hall meeting was attended by members of the state executive council, state House of Assembly members, traditional and religious leaders, market women, civil society groups, labour unions and youths.
