Outrage: Rick Ross sings about how cool it is to rape the girl you’re dating

The rapper Rick Ross, the other guy having seizures besides Lil Wayne, is now in trouble for a verse he put in a song that seems to be promoting sexual assault in young men.   In the song “U.O.E.N.O.” (a slang version of the phrase “you don’t even know”), Ross talks about date rape as if it’s just another day at the office.

“Put molly all in her champagne/ She ain’t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain’t even know it,” Ross says in the song.

In case “you-on-even-know,” Molly is a pure form of MDMA, a drug that reduces inhibitions in woman and makes them more sexuall.  So, basically, Ross is saying that the way to make sure your date has a happy ending is to drug your date and rape her at the end of the night.  You can imagine how a few activists might find the lyrics to be disconcerting.

“This lyric is obviously promoting rape,” says journalist and hip-hop activist Rosa Clemente. “Not just date rape, but rape and rape culture and violence against women. We live in a society by the time that African American women and Latina women are 18, almost half of them — 44 percent — have been sexually abused.”

Is this going to cost Ross or simply raise his profile?  It’s yet to be determined.  But some people think that the irresponsibility of hip-hop lyrics has gotten out of hand.
