Pat Utomi is the face of ‘competence’ in Nigeria – Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111, has described Professor Pat Utomi as the face of competence and creativity in Nigeria.

Speaking in honour of the the political-economist at 60, Sultan of Sokoto described him as an advocate for good governance and the best among his generation.

A statement released by Rasheed Adebgenro, the Senior Vice President, Centre for Values in Leadership, quoted the Sultan to have commended Utomi’s courage and foray into politics and concluded that ‘he may not have won, but his presence in the political arena not only raised the stakes and added value to politics, but more importantly it sent a clear message that politics is a serious business’.

As part of activities to mark the 60th birthday of the professor, a colloquium will be held on Wednesday, February 3, in Lagos, to discuss ‘The Developmental State, Politics, Politicians and Progress’.

The high level colloquium will examine why politicians have not led Nigeria to the promise of the founding fathers.

Speakers at the colloquium include Governor Adams Oshiomole, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and Femi Falana.

The Guest of Honour at the event will be Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will speak on why positive leadership eluded Nigeria in her development and the way forward in nation building.

The colloquium, which will hold at the Nigerian Institute of international Affairs, Victoria Island, is organized as part of activities to mark the 60th birthday anniversary of Prof. Pat Utomi who turns 60 years on February 6.
