Following the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, the Peoples Dmeocratic Party Campaign Organisation has reacted by saying the elder statesman is entitled to his opinions.
While fiedling questions from journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, February 11, Director, Media and Publicity of PDPPCO, Femi Fani-Kayode, said Obasanjo is highly respected by the PDP, however, he spoke for himself by endorsing Buhari.
Fani-Kayode stated that Obasanjo’s action was “very sad”, adding that the battle will be fought on “the field”.
He said: “I have to confess to you, I have not read what President Obasanjo said. I have just been told and I haven’t read the text. As far as I am concerned, President Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion, he is a respected member of our society, and we have immense respect for him. This election is about one man, one vote and we should restrict our choices and decisions to ourselves.”
“I believe it will be a very sad day indeed, if going by what we all know about Gen. Buhari and what Gen. Obasanjo knows about Gen. Buhari that he will still go out of his way to endorse him for anything; I will be very surprised.”
“But we will meet them all at the polls, we would meet in the field and by the grace of God, at the end of it all those that have endorsed Buhari, of course they know that President Goodluck Jonathan has come of age and Nigerians will make their choice and we shall win,” Fani-Kayode added.
I wish somebody would help me to tell general Buhari that crowd effect on campaign rallies is not a determinant of how many votes he would get on the election day.some may not vote,some may vote improperly,some may by then lose contact with whatever “influence”upon them maybe financial or otherwise and begin to relate with conscience-anything can happen. And anybody should accept whatever comes.
Obasanjo to me,is like every other Nigerian and as rightly said, he has only one vote like every other Nigerian .He is not God and his endorsement has no weight. In 2011,he threw caution to d wings and said all manner of things in owerri to make sure that Ohakim wins but IMO people disgraced both the endorser and the endorsed and their choice. Nobody should lose sleep over OBA-SO-NJO(crocodile that is full of ugliness)
