Why PDP lost the election – Former Chairman, Tukur (maybe) knows something we don’t

by Panshak Ibrahim

The immediate past National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur says the party’s defeat in the general election is due to a lack of internal democracy.

Tukur made the disclosure to journalists in Yola on Thursday, April 16, while reviewing the outcome of the recently concluded elections.

According to Tukur, the disregard for internal democracy in the party was one of the major reasons for the dismal outing at the recently concluded elections.

“We have been preaching election not selection, internal democracy not imposition. Anywhere it was done, it will leave a bitter pill in the mouth.”

He also congratulated the President- elect, governors and the legislators, saying: “We like to congratulate elected leaders and legislators who were successful and for those who participated but could not make it. There is another contest. I salute all of them.”

While urging PDP members not to lose their morale, Tukur stated that elections were like football competitions in which one team could emerge winner today but become the loser tomorrow.
