PDP Reps get green light to sack Tambuwal, as court stops early resumption

Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers in the House of Representatives have been given the green light to sack Honourable Aminu Tambuwal from his position as Speaker, because of his recent defection from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The order was reportedly sanctioned on Monday, 3 November, by the Presidency and leadership of the PDP.

Sources at the National Assembly revealed that the PDP caucus in the House were informed by the Presidency of their duty to remove the Speaker from office by all lawful means, while assuring them of the support of the party.

According to a top member of the House, a meeting has been scheduled with the national chairman of the party and the lawmakers to finetune the strategy for ousting the Speaker.

“We have been given a marching order to impeach the Speaker, because he is no longer part of us. We are meeting with our party this evening (yesterday) to discuss how to go about the assignment,” he said.

The source disclosed that all members of the PDP in the House of Representatives had been ordered to attend a meeting with party leaders on Tuesday, 4 November, while adding that two members of the House from the South West had been shortlisted as replacement for Tambuwal.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, stopped the House of Representatives from reconvening before November 7, when the suit brought before it by the Speaker of the House, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, will be heard.

Tambuwal had approached the court through an ex parte application, seeking an order of interim injunction stopping the House of Representatives from reconvening and removing him from office, pending the determination of the suit he filed last week Friday.
