PDP youths give party ‘adults’ 1 week to resolve crisis, else…

Youths under the aegis of Concerned Peoples Democratic Party Youths are finally tired of the leadership struggle which has divided the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The chairman of the group, Aderemi Olufemi on Tuesday briefed the press at the PDP National Headquarters – where he gave the party one week to resolve the crisis or a take-over would be effected.

Olufemi told the press that the youths of the party have been patient with the stakeholders of the party since the Port Harcourt convention in expectation that they would peacefully resolve the leadership crisis.

After the youths met in an emergency meeting, they resolved that, “We are giving the leadership of the party (which includes the BOT, Governors’ Forum, warring groups and other stakeholders) a seven-day ultimatum to resolve this intractable but avoidable rancour.”

“However, if this is not resolved, we shall be compelled to mobilise all concerned youths nationwide to take over the affairs of the party, as we have started putting in place an effective structure to take over the party secretariat.”

“The PDP as a party is bigger than individuals and groups. Therefore, we will henceforth not tolerate anyone to take the party for a ride. We are therefore demanding the immediate withdrawal of all pending litigation in the court of law, so that we can amicably resolve all issues (that is what PDP is known for – dialogue).”

Olufemi further noted that the youth group of the party had initiated an 11-man committee to meet with all the factions and stakeholders concerned to ensure urgent resolutions to all the problems within the party.

The group also decried the selfishness of the leaders of the party in chasing their own ambitions when it clearly can affect the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
