Pearl Allison: I walked down the aisle after 11 years of dating (30 Days of Gratitude)

2015 was/is an indescribable year. So many lessons learned – especially about human nature, a number of firsts and my wedding.

We’d been dating 11 years and kept hoping that each year would be THE year but stuff always sort of happened and the wedding didn’t happen. And then it did!

I’ll have to say that my wedding was the high of this year and I am very thankful for my Adams. He has taught me so much, my Adams. He is a constant source of strength and encouragement; patiently showing me where I have gone wrong and lovingly correcting me, teaching me what should and shouldn’t be.

At one time, I took a people-related decision that sort of went south fast, very fast. I knew I was wrong but I didn’t know why I was wrong. He then showed me how I went off track and pointed out that I needed to be more sensitive in my dealings with people and that I had prioritized protocol above the objective it should serve. I’m taking it all in.

I cannot overstate the importance of friendship. It is important to have a friend or friends who share the same values as you. Friends with strong character who will stand by you, who will give their blood for you, who will give their first child for you.

I’m grateful for the opportunities I had to make amends where I erred. To have the chance to say a meaningful ‘I’m sorry’ to someone you hurt is a huge blessing. I’m very grateful to have been extended the gift of forgiveness, not just once but over and over again.

“I shall pass this way but once; any good therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

~Stephen Grellet~

So, I’m looking to have a very productive 2016. I have to change. I have discovered areas of weakness that I need to work on and now I have the tools. I’ve been under the close tutelage of a great man for over a year and now I must put all I have learned to work in my life.

I pray that all will be well with you and yours and that you will not lack any good thing.

May 2016 be good for you.
