Pepsodent launches Little Brush Big Brush Campaign as its celebrates World Oral Health Day with Federal Ministry of Health and Nigerian Dental Association

Leading toothpaste brand, Pepsodent in partnership with the Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) gathered once again at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on the 20th of March, 2017 to celebrate World Oral Heath Day.

The celebration themed Live Mouth Smart was aimed at raising awareness of good oral health habits such as brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste like Pepsodent.

Guests included schoolchildren, parents, caregivers, wife of the Senate President Toyin Ojora-Saraki, the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Federal Ministry of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire and Unilever representatives, who all gathered to pledge their commitment to Brush Everyday, Day and Night

“We know that building good brushing habits in children sets them up for better oral health in the future, which in turn leads to better overall health outcomes,” said Severine Vauleon, Global Vice President, Oral Care , Unilever. At the event it was revealed that to further drive good toothbrushing habits from childhood, Pepsodent has launched a mobile first approach, Little Brush, Big Brush – a 21-day behaviour change programme to help families with children build better tooth brushing habits through fun and play, delivered on people’s mobile phones through Facebook Messenger. “This innovation which combines strong storytelling and cutting-edge AI technology is part of our initiative to reach 10 million children by 2020. Little Brush Big Brush is an animated story, which comprises of 21 episodes featuring animal characters that help children develop good brushing habits for life,” said Mrs. Ibironke Ugbaja, Nigeria Oral Care Category Lead, Unilever.

“We are committed to our partnership with Unilever Nigeria. Plc, who have made the success of the previous World Oral Health celebrations possible with their immense support towards oral health in Nigeria,” said Dr Osagie Ehanire, Honourable Minister of State for Health, Federal Ministry of Health, at the event. He added that, “We have recognised that children are powerful behaviour change advocates in their homes, often driving conversation and action with parents around issues like this. This is why we have partnered with Unilever on its Oral health school’s programme”.

Dr. Bode Ijarogbe President of the Nigerian Dental Association said, “We need to empower people to take control of their oral health – throughout life – so they can enjoy a healthy, functional mouth from childhood into old age. Maintaining optimal oral health into old age ensures you live not only a longer life, but also one free from the physical pain and often emotional suffering caused by oral disease.”

Oral diseases are amongst the most common diseases worldwide. They can be easily prevented by brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, like Pepsodent.

The Corporate Affairs Director for Unilever, Mrs. Soramidayo George also stated that recent research shows that establishing the twice a day brushing habit in children has benefits into adulthood. She said, “The effects of practising good oral health from young have lasting effects. Nearly 20 years later, these children have experienced almost 20% fewer dental treatments than their peers, proving that these interventions make an impact for life.”

Children at the event took part in a mass pledge and smile formation promising to ‘Brush everyday, day and night’ as Pepsodent and its partners have taught them..
