PHOTOS: This is something the Nigeria Police can learn from…

by Isi Esene

This photos capture the sombre scene of a triple murder in California where a mother and two of her children were brutally killed. The surviving child was later found crying but unharmed in another room.

Here we see a sheriff’s deputy cradling the 6-month-old survivor.

These photos aptly reflects the kind of empathy you would like to see from men of the Nigeria Police Force, no?

  1. Nigeria Police Officers are known to have exhibited better empathy than that shown in the orchestrated photo. Before drawing instances to paint the Nigeria Police black, unfriendly, and even inhuman, reflect a while and consider the policy framework within which they operate, the environment, the tools and skills with which they work, the circumstances/situational dictates, and the inner conflicts the individual police officer must contend with daily as a person and as a police officer. Nigerian Security Officers (public or private) are the most poorly paid worldwide. With a meagre N20,000 per month he is expected to protect lives including properties worth millions of Naira for 30 days and more. Your life and property cannot be valued more than your security officer's monthly take home pay. Create the enably environment , provide the necessary infrastructure, and institute favourable conditions of service and you will get the best from your security officer. Protect the protector financially and otherwise, and he can stake his life in your defence.

  2. We have it in record that Nigeria police perform better while on peace keeping mission outside the country, but why can't they perform better when they come back to their country Nigeria? Is a question Nigeria Government should ask themselves.
