Plateau crisis: 4 men killed, 2 others injured by unknown gunmen

Four people were killed on Monday by unknown gunmen in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The gunmen reportedly shot at the bus which the victims were traveling in near Fang village around 5:30pm, killing four people instantly.

The victims were identified as Markus Davou, the driver, Gyang Pius, Yohanna Bature and Monday Kentong.

Samuel Umaru and Keneng Pius are currently receiving treatment at the Vom Christian Hospital for injuries sustained in the attack.

Sources say the gunmen were in military camouflage but no further details have been given as to the identity of the assailants.

Daniel Dem, representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly has condemned the attack describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable.”

The media officer of the special task force in the state, Captain Salisu Mustapha, confirmed the attack. He appealed to the people to remain calm assuring that the relevant security agencies are investigating the matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the crime to book.

Just last week, two people were gunned down at Du in Jos South Local government Area also by unknown gunmen, sparking protests from women and youths, who condemned the arrest of nine members of the village’s local guards by soldiers as they came out in pursuit of the attackers.
