Police in Abia state believe they’ve found a lead on the case of murdered teenage prostitute, Mercy.

Recently it was revealed that two suspects were cooperating with the Abia State Police Command on what they knew about the death of a 16-year-old girl.

One of the suspects, Levi Nwankwo, an Okada operator, reportedly told the police that took Mercy on Thursday night, July 11, 2013 to her boyfriend, Uchenna Okorie’s house following his instruction.

When he got there, he said Okorie was out but dropped Esther there and asked her to wait for him. He said when he left, she was sitting under a mango tree in the compound.

Some days later, Esther’s decaying body was found in an uncompleted building around the Cattle Market, Gariki, in Lokpanta, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State and according to the police, they couldn’t determine if any part of her body was tampered with because of the decomposed nature of the remains, Vanguard reports.

The suspects, Uchenna Okorie and Levi Nwankwo are currently with the Criminal Investigation Department, CID. They were nabbed after a food vendor at the Gariki, had spotted Nwankwo on the might pick Esther up on an Okada to Okorie’s house.

Esther’s colleagues at the Cattle Market had raised alarm when they had not see her for a couple of days but it was the smell from the decomposed body that attracted the people around the area, to the building.

Abia State Police Commissioner, Usman Tilli Abubakar, confirmed the incident saying Esther deserved to live whether she was a prostitute or not and said the police would get to the root of the matter.
