The driver and grandson of a 90-year-old woman, simply identified as Mrs Madueke, who was kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be ransom kidnappers, have been arrested.

The duo were arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), in connection with the kidnap and are presently undergoing interrogations.

There was however, jubilation at Adazi-Ani community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State yesterday, following Madueke’s release after payment of ransom.

Vanguard reports:

Gunmen abducted Madueke in her home about eight days ago and demanded N50 million ransom as a condition for her release but following series of negotiations between her family and the kidnappers, they agreed on an unspecified amount of ransom which was paid to them before they released her early yesterday.

A close associate of the family, Chief G. U. Okeke who is also a native of Adazi-Ani, said  in a telephone chat, yesterday, that the ransom was taken to the kidnappers somewhere in Nsukka, Enugu State, as they dictated, while victim was dropped at Abagana Junction in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, from where the family picked her up.

Okeke who is the Chairman of G.U.O. Motors Limited, said the victim’s grand son and her driver are now being grilled over the kidnap.

At press time, the officer in-charge of SARS, James Nwafor, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP,  could not comment on the matter when contacted on phone as he said he was busy in a field operation.
