Police arrest man suspected to have killed Nigerian cab driver in New York

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing of a Nigerian cab driver in the Brownsville area of Brooklyn in downtown New York.

On Tuesday, police in New York arrested a suspect believed to have stabbed 54-year-old Uro Ama Orji from Ebonyi state in the eye with an umbrella on June 13.

There was another passenger in the vehicle and reports say the suspect was seen running from the scene of the incident through security camera.

Vanguard reports:

The late Orji was taken to the Brookdale Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The suspect, named as Shamel Allen, 28, of Brooklyn, was charged for manslaughter and possession of weapon.

He was accused of the stabbing the deceased inside a cab in Brownsville on June 13.

Orji’s sister in-law, Mrs Chinedum Agwu, described the deceased as “a hard-working Nigerian” who had been driving cab since he moved to Brooklyn 10 years ago.
