Police kill 2 robbers in Edo

The Police in Edo on Friday evening killed two members of a four-man robbery gang, The Nation reports.

The gang, which drove a grey colour Toyota Corolla car had trailed a man from Ughelli in Delta State to a new generation bank in Benin City in a bid to dispose him of the sum of N500,000 he wanted to use to purchase a car.

According to a source the robbers shot their victim in the leg after collecting the money and shot sporadically into the air.

The robbers met their end when they were pursued by men of Operation Thunder Storm, who were on a patrol in the area.

The encounter left two of the armed robbers dead at the Evbomore area of Ugbowo, off Ugbowo-Lagos Road, while another member of the gang was arrested.

The police also recovered the stolen money, and cordoned off the area as search for the fourth member of the gang is ongoing.

The victim of the attack was said to have been rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for medical attention.

Spokesman of the Edo State Police command, DSP Moses Nkombe refused to comment on the incident as he was yet to get clearance from his boss, the Commissioner of Police.
