The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has implied that he may have only two or three years remaining in office.

He said this while speaking to journalists aboard his jet as he returned to Italy from a trip to South Korea on Tuesday, 19 August.

According to Mainonline, Pope Francis said he could step down from the Papacy if his health failed to cope with the rigours of his office.

The Pope said, “I see it as the generosity of the people of God. I try to think of my sins, my mistakes, not to become proud. Because I know it will last only a short time.”

When he was asked for the reason behind his utterance, he said he had ‘some nerve problems’ which require treatment, also adding that, “Two or three years and then I’ll be off to the Father’s house.”

The Argentine Pontiff replaced Pope Benedict XVI, who stepped down last year.
