#Potiskum school attack: Yobe Government orders closure of all schools

Twenty fours after the suicide bomb attack on Government Science Secondary School in Potiskum, Yobe state government has instructed that all public and private schools in the state, should be closed down.

The state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammad Lamin disseminated the directive on Tuesday, 11 November, in Damaturu.

He stated that the closure was to be done, with immediate effect.

Lamin added that government decided to close the schools to enable it adopt more security measures to guarantee the safety of students, teachers and the school environment across the state.

On Monday, 10 November, at least 48 students were killed after a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the school assembly in the city of Potiskum.

The Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam, while reacting to the bombing, said it was the fifth time in a little over a year that a school in Yobe state would attack. He also called on President Jonathan to explain why the insurgents’ attack could not remain unabated, in spite of the declaration of a ‘state of emergency in Yobe.

The four other schools which have been attacked within the state in the last year are; Government Secondary School, Damaturu; Government Secondary School Mamudo; College of Agriculture, Gujba; Federal Government College, Buni-Yadi.
