There was tragedy in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State yesterday as a pregnant woman was said to have been hit by stray bullets when men of the newly commissioned police unit, Operation Doo Akpo, were in pursuit of suspected armed robbers.

A policeman attached to the mobile security unit was also reported to have died after accidentally falling from a speeding police pick-up van and fell head-first on the tarred road. He died instantly according to witnesses.

The incident which happened around 2:30pm in the afternoon caused a major traffic gridlock around the Yenizue-Epie suburb on the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road.

There was no confirmation if the suspected armed robbers were however apprehended.

There have been major security breaches in many parts of the country and the government have continued to state its commitment to the security of lives and property of all citizens.
