‘President Buhari won’t interfere with investigation of Obasanjo, Lamorde’

The ongoing investigations being carried out by the National Assembly, will be free of interference from President Muhammadu Buhari, says the Presidency.

The Presidency says the President will have nothing to do with the Senate’s probes of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, as well as the probe of the power sector from 1999 to 2015.

According to the Presidency, these probes were entirely legislative matters and the President lacks the authority to stop them.

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, gave the assurance to Punch Newspapers, that the President respects the principle separation of powers, and as such will steer clear of the probes.

Adesina, was quoted to have said: “There is separation of powers and the Senate has the power to conduct probes.

“Thus, the Presidency does not need to endorse or oppose any probe being carried out by the legislature. It is within their power to do so.”
