President Buhari to swear-in 36 ministers on Wednesday

Five months after the presidential inauguration, 36 ministers-designate, having been confirmed by the senate would be sworn into office by President Muhammadu Buhari, next week Wednesday.

The President is expected to formally inaugurate the Federal Executive Council inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

During the inauguration, Buhari will also announce the portfolios of the members of his cabinet.

On Monday, two days before the inauguration, President Buhari will swear in the new National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and five national commissioners.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, reportedly confirmed that the inauguration of ministers was on Buhari’s schedule for Wednesday.

“Yes, it is on the President’s schedule. He will swear in the ministers on Wednesday. He will swear in the INEC chairman and his national commissioners on Monday.”

The President had repeatedly said that his administration would be lucky to have 21 ministries, in spite of the fact that 36 ministers were screened.

This has given credence to the widely-held belief that some ministries will be merged while a few others may be possibly scrapped.
