Is Buhari really angry with Timipre Sylva over botched Bayelsa election?

Former governor of Bayelsa state and the governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in last weekend’s inconclusive governorship election, Timipre Sylva, may have been left in the cold, to fight his battle alone.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the Bayelsa governorship election inconclusive on the basis of widespread irregularities in Southern Ijaw LGA.

Sylva, who has publicly disagreed with the decision of the INEC, is reported to have made several attempts ‘to have an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari’, Vanguard reports.

The report states that although Sylva has tried to set up a meeting with the President, his attempts have so far been futile.

A source within the Presidency was quoted to have said that Buhari is displeased with the APC in Bayelsa and Sylva over the violence and irregularities reported in Southern LGA during the governorship polls.

”Mr. President is angry over the overwhelming criticism and condemnation of the process by international observers, who did not mince words in describing the poll as a rape of democracy.

“Some of the observers are already seeing the APC-led Federal Government as lacking the capacity to conduct a free, fair and credible election in a state as small as Bayelsa. What happened in Southern Ijaw was  against every acceptable global democratic norm and practice.”
