[The Presidential blog]: Please whose budget is this?

FG will present N6trn as 2017 budget – Adeosun

This was in the news yesterday. And I am just confused.

Why are we presenting a NGN 6.86 trillion budget when we are still trying to finance a NGN6.06 trillion budget?

Why will half this budget (let us assume it sees the light of day) still go to funding recurrent expenditure. Why are we still paying people half of everything. People who are yet to show they can get the job done.

Who are we going to borrow from this time?

And WHY does Minister Adeosun think it is okay to complain to us about corruption? You don’t hear us complain about that being about the only thing we’ve seen this government do all year.

Here’s how she broke it down:

“Salaries on their own are about N1.8 trillion to N1.9 trillion. And by the time you add the Judiciary, the National Assembly, pensions, and others, you are at N2 trillion. Add debt service, which is about N1.4 trillion. So, if you want to bring down the size of the budget, you won’t be able to do very many capital projects.

No Minister of Finance! No! We want our cake here. All of it. And we intend to have it.

We want the budget reduced and we want it reduced from recurrent expenditure that’s being spent on the 1% of the population that has been receiving it forever.

NGN 3trillion to pay salaries? NGN 2 trillion to which judiciary? The same judiciary that keeps thousands of dollars in cash at home?

Is this a joke?
