President Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians that elections will hold on March 28 and a president will be sworn in on May 29, 2015.

Jonathan said this today during a Presidential Media Chat which held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

According to the President: “I assure Nigerians that elections will be held and a government will be inaugurated on May 29.”

The president also assured that he has no plans to remove the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it is being bandied about.

This lays to rest widespread rumours that the president has devised a plan to subvert the course of democracy in order to perpetuate himself as the president of the country beyond May 29.

This rumours were fuelled by the sudden postponement of the February 14 elections purportedly as a result of the war against insurgency which has left the military incapable of discharging its statutory role of assisting the police in keeping law and order during the general elections.
