Psychiatric hospital fires four over “lawlessness”

by Iyobosa Omoregie

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin, has fired four members of staff, one of whom is a medical doctor, for insubordination. The affected workers are Dr. Ambrose Lawani, a medical consultant; Kennedy Oriakhi, a pharmacist; Mr. O.J. Ugiagbe-Ogbeide and a senior accountant, Mr. Theophilus Osifo.

The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Sunny Olotu, who confirmed the dismissal of the affected persons, said that two others, namely, Dr. Charles Ikeji and Ms. O. U. Morgan, had also been suspended.

Olotu explained that the punitive measure was taken against the embattled staffs by the Management Board of the Hospital “with recourse to lay down rules and procedures,” adding that the duo of Ikeji and Morgan were suspended because they have been “investigated by the police and are currently in court over alleged felony”.
