How public office holders refuse assets’ verification – CCB

The Code of Conduct Bureau has said most top public officers declare their assets but avoid verification of the bureau.

This was in a statement by the Head of Press of the CCB, Mohammed Idris on Friday.

Idris denied a media report in which the Chairman of the bureau, Sam Saba, was quoted as ordering some ministers, governors, service chiefs and top government officials to declare their assets.

He said the chairman of the bureau only complained about the high number of public office holders who were not willing to get verified by the bureau.

The statement read in part, “Furthermore, the Bureau wishes to express its dissatisfaction over the news coverage in which the chairman was reported to have ordered ministers, governors, service chiefs and top government officials to declare their assets.

“This is only in the imagination of the reporter.  Nothing of such was said.  Rather, the Chairman said, one of the challenges the bureau faces today is that of the top ranking public officers not wanting to be verified.

“They give reason of the exigencies of office to refuse verification.”
