Who is trending on the News sites and blogs today? Rahama Sadau, a Kannywood actress, the female star of the Northern movie industry in Nigeria. Up until her name made it to mainstream news today, only a few of us had ever heard of her. When we think Northern movies, we think Ali Nuhu simply because he’s starred in mainstream Nollywood movies and he’s a brilliant actor, no doubt.
But Rahama Sadau has changed that today. She featured as the love interest in music video for a track titled “I love you” by Jos based music act, Classiq. When the video was released 6 days ago, her fans in the North found fault in the act she put up. Sadau hugged and held hands with Classiq in some of the scenes and according to critics, she had crossed the lines and had brought shame to her family. It turned out Sadau’s troubles would not end with just her fans.
The Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) released a statement on the 2nd of October announcing the expulsion of Rahama Sadau from Kannywood for appearing in an “immoral” video. According to the statement, “she appeared in a series of visuals (video and pictorials) hugging and cuddling the music artiste Classiq. The leadership of the industry will no longer tolerate behaviours that are against conduct and ethics laid down by the constitution governing the unified leadership of the industry.”
Rahama Sadau is yet to respond to this action taken against her as we hear she’s currently in India but a number of Nigerians have weighed in on the matter, some Nollywood stakeholders have even made informal calls for the actress to join their side of things since Kannywood, apparently no longer has use for her talent.

Somehow, Ali Nuhu got dragged into this as some folks are of the opinion that hypocrisy has come to play in these matters. They maintain that the award-winning actor has featured in lewd scenes that never got negative attention from MOPPAN. Here’s what they think:

They expelled her for hugging Classiq but Ali Nuhu can hug in his movies. Again double standards. Tired. https://t.co/qhxCBSnKZW

In all of these, we believe that Sadau is aware of the rules that guide Kannywood and she must have gone against them with a purpose at heart. Or maybe we’re wrong! Maybe Kannywood just loves to prey on her considering she was reportedly handed a 6 month suspension for refusing romantic advances made at her by a movie producer.
From down here, we’ll probably never know what the truth is behind these strange reports.
