Single mother of two faces jail time for robbery

For her kids of course.

A mother of two, Maryam Musa, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for robbery by the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Bauchi state.

The 27-year-old woman was accused of being a member of a motorcycle-snatching syndicate that was nabbed by the police in the state.

Musa had initially said she was a widow and was not involved in the crime committed by members of the syndicate but later pleaded guilty.

Although she didn’t exactly say why but she proclaimed she’s a single mother of two. She was dragged to the Chief Magistrate’s Court VI in Bauchi along with other members of the syndicate.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, in a statement on Tuesday said Musa, Ahmed Zakari and Ashiru Abdullahi pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and theft of five motorcycles, contrary to sections 96 and 286 of the Penal Code.

He said they were sentenced by the court to six months imprisonment with an option of N10,000 each.
