Redeemers University student who murdered his father arraigned

Tolani Ajayi, the 21-year-old Redeemer University student who murdered his father, Charles Ajayi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, – has been arraigned in magistrate court at Owode Egba, Obafemi Owode local government area.

Tolani was arraigned yesterday 5 August, by 9am, before the chief magistrate Bolaji Ojikutu, on a one count charge of murder Of his father, but unfortunately the defendant had no legal defense counsel in court at the time of the arraignment.

The court stated the following in the hearing proceedings; “That you, Tola Ajayi, on 21 July, 2014, at about 4am at Canaan-Land Street, RCCG Camp, Mowe in the Owode Egba Magistrate Court District did unlawfully kill one Charles Ajayi, aged 60, by matcheting him with knife and cutlass and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under section 319(1) of the criminal code, laws of Ogun State of Nigeria. 2006.”

After adjourning the case to the 10th of October 2014, the chief magistrate, Bolaji Ojikutu, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Tolani has since expressed his regret over the incident, saying that he carried out the act in anger after his father first attacked him with a stick.
