Reply Fayose’s suit in 7 days, court orders EFCC, ICPC

Following a motion filed to stop the probe into finances of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s administration, an High Court in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to respond within seven days.

The motion which was filed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi is seeking to stop anti-graft agencies from investigating the transactions of the government.

Also mentioned in the suit are the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Department of State Services and five banks the state government transacts business with as well as the managers of those banks.

Justice Cornelius Akintayo had ordered the applicant to notify the defendants in the case for defence but observed that they had just been served the motion in court.

He then adjourned the case to August 29 when the 7 days will elapse.

The EFCC had reportedly traced N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser under Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) to Fayose’s account.

The money was also traced to the account of Musiliu Obanikoro as well as his sons.

The EFCC then froze all the accounts including those of Fayose’s associates.
