Report: Indomie factory shut down by restive youth in Kaduna

by Akan Ido

Reports say youth in five communities in Chikun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State have shutdown an Indomie factory located in Kaduna South.

The community youth are said to be demanding employment opportunities in the factory said to be largest of its kind in Africa.

They maintain that the company has reneged on its promise of providing employment for members of the community as initially agreed with the communities.

The mixed group reportedly converged on the factory around 6am, Thursday, carrying placards with varying inscriptions to press on their point.

The area police control post reportedly manned by DPO Oliver Eze addressed the youth pleading with them to allow the staff of the Indomie factory to enter the facility. In response, the youths were said to have allowed the staff  gain entrance into the facility.

Sources say talks between the facility managers, the police and the community youth are still ongoing.
