Keith Ogunsola, a 47-year-old Nigerian science teacher working in the UK, has been arrested for repeatedly raping a 14-year-old pupil.
According to Your Local Guardian UK, Ogunsola who groomed the girl for a while has been informed that he will be put away for a very long time. “Grooming” is befriending a child by building a strong, trusting bond, though the term is most often used negatively to refer to situations where child molesters lower a child’s defenses by geting closer to them and winning their trust over a period of time, in order to later be able to assault them.
He had used the good ol’ lesson teacher scheme to lure her into hotel rooms and offer car lifts. In one incidence, while giving her a ride, he said he was really attracted to her and tried to kiss her.
Reports from the Croydon Crown Court revealed that the abuse started in January 2001. A month later, he met the student at the former Aerodrome Hotel, in Purley Way, Croydon, where he took her virginity by raping her.
The court heard he then embarked on a three-year secret affair with her, telling his victim to wear skirts with no underwear when they met so it was easier to have sex with her.
The court heard the married father of three also booked stays at the Premier Inn and Hilton hotel in Purley Way. The Huffington Post reports that prosecutor Hanna Llewellyn-Waters told how the girl was intimidated into thinking no-one would believe her story against a teacher. When the pupil told Nigerian-born Ogunsola she wanted a boyfriend he “ripped off her clothes and raped her again”.
“She was maneuvered into a position where she did not tell anyone, believing her word would not be believed against a teacher and the defendant told her what to do, say and wear,” Llewellyn-Waters said.
This case also opened a can of worms featuring Ogunsola’s other paedophilic crimes.
In 2008, he sexually harassed a different student where he grabbed a 14-year-old pupil and stuck his tongue in her mouth while they were in his school office.
He also asked girls in his chemistry class whether they had performed oral sex, Huffington Post reports.
On Friday, May 18, a jury took two-and-a-half-hours to find Ogunsola guilty of rape, indecent assault, and engaging in sexual activity while in a position of trust.
Remanding Ogunsola in custody, Judge Jeff Blackett said, “I have a pretty good idea in my own mind what the sentence is going to be.”Follow us on Twitter @YNaija
