The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said the Edo governorship election result sheet remain valid even as some agents refused to sign.
INEC National Commissioner in Charge of Publicity, Prince Solomon Soyebi, stated this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Benin.
He said this while reacting to the refusal of agents of the Peoples Democratic Party and that of the Young Democratic Party to sign the Edo governorship election result sheet.
Soyebi said the Electoral Act and Election Guidelines stipulates the validity of an election.
He said, “The refusal of any party agents to sign the result sheet does not in any way invalidate the declared result of the election.”
He expressed satisfaction at the peaceful conduct of the election.
He said, “This is one of the few elections that we have conducted with minimum violence.”
