The 2011 edition of the Headies, formerly known as the Hip-Hop World Awards, will hold at the New Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on Saturday 22, October. According to organizers, the urban music awards aims at rewarding musical excellence and outstanding creativity by focusing the spotlight on the finest musicians in the country.

Co-hosted by dexterous music producer eLDee and talented actress Rita Dominic, this year’s edition is a homecoming for the Headies which was earlier rumoured to be moving to the southern part of the country. Plans are currently afloat to make this the most successful awards in the five year history. Ayo Animashaun, founder of the awards gushes; ”We took all this time to come up with concepts that will surpass previous editions; we are glad to raise the standard again, far above what we have set over the years.”

This year, fifty eight artistes will battle for honors in twenty categories that include “Album of the year”, “Song of the year”, “Best music video” and the prestigious “Next Rated Category”.
