by Adedoyin Jaiyesimi

We give a run-down of some of our favourite – local and foreign – Christmas movies for all time!

  1. 1.  Home alone

THIS IS a Christmas classic. Kevin McCallister’s mischievous tricks as he tries to prevent his house from being burgled will get you laughing over and over again. This is the Christmas for this movie if you’ve never (what?!) seen it before.

  1. 2.  Polar Express

Just magical. A young boy goes on an extraordinary journey to discover whether or not Santa truly exists. It also turns out to be a journey of self-discovery. A beautiful movie and it is highly recommended for family viewing this Christmas.

  1. 3.  Richie Rich Christmas Wish

A careless wish leads Richie Rich on a search for a wishing machine that loses all its wishing power at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve. You’ll laugh, cry and hold your breath as you wish the sweet, determined young boy succeeds in getting to the wishing machine before the deadline. Chrismtas wish fulfilled.

  1. 4.  Christmas Carol: The movie

This is a remake of Charles’ Dickens Christmas classic. The musical is delightful and keeps many elements of the original story as written by Dickens. The kids will surely enjoy this one.

  1. 5.  Silent Night

The movie that brought Nigerians the famous Segun Arinze character ‘Black Arrow’, a father has to go through the emotional trauma of sentencing his son, the leader the of an armed robbery gang, to death. Released around Christmas about a decade ago, this movie deals with family, love and character and might just bring tears to your eyes.

  1. 6.  Jack Frost

It takes the occurrence of death to make a father realise how bad he had been neglecting his son. He has another chance to make amends; although as a snowman. The movie stretches your imagination: imagine a boy talking to and playing with a snowman and even calling him daddy! Who needs reality when it’s Christmas?!

  1. 7.  Deck the Halls

A quest to make a home visible outside the planet leads to fierce competition between two neighbours. They are both determined to create the best lighting display any one has ever seen – and you’ll laugh all the way!

  1. 8.  Four Christmases

A couple’s yearly tradition of avoiding parental visits during holiday comes to an end as their foolproof plan inadvertently fails. The couple finds itself pleasing divorced parents who live in four separate households. The perfect match of Vince Vaughn and Reese Withserspoon brings life to this Christmas movie comedy.

  1. 9.  A Christmas Passion

Thanks to a case of amnesia, Christmas and Passion (no, seriously, those were their names) begin a whirlwind romance, which comes crashing down when Passion’s real boyfriend appears. Infidelity here and a dose of true love sees Christmas and Passion’s love enduring. They pole on the cheese, but it’s all for a good cause.

  1. 10.                This Christmas

A family reunion during Christmas goes sour as unexpressed emotions run wild. Secrets are revealed, harsh words are spoken but in the end the family is able to find that unique thing about them that keeps them as a family. It’s a typical black American movie – so you’ll be laughing from start to finish! Y!
