DSS agent killed, 2 others die as security forces, thugs face off in Rivers

Not less than three people were killed on Friday during an intense firefight between joint security forces and thugs in the Obagi axis of Egi community, Ogba Egbema Ndoni local government area of Rivers state.

During the gun battle, an operative of the Department of State Services, was reported to have been shot dead.

The hoodlums are believed to have waylaid the team of security operatives during their operation in the area, ahead of Saturday’s State and National Assemblies Re-run elections.

Spokesperson, Port Harcourt army barracks, Captain Lazarus Eli has confirmed the death of a member of the joint security forces.

Captain Eli revealed that the thugs were repelled by a combined security patrol team made up of the Police, Department of State Services, DSS and the Army.

“A joint security team consisting of the army, police and DSS while conducting patrol today at Egi in Omoku Community of Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area of Rivers State were attacked by unknown gunmen.”

“The criminals engaged the security team for several hours before they were eventually dislodged. Sadly, a security agent lost his life in the unfortunate incident. Reinforcement has been sent to beef up security in the area and normalcy has been restored.”

“The public is hereby advised to remain calm and be law abiding throughout the election period and beyond as security agents will continue to work assiduously to ensure security of lives and property.”

Meanwhile, Vanguard reports that two other people were killed from the gun exchange between the Joint Forces and the hoodlums.

“I am aware they killed one innocent person and two others. The story will be clearer by tomorrow (today) because all of us have been indoor since the incident.”
